Ahead Of President Buhari’s Assent Cross River Peace Corps Commandant Boost Morale Of His Men

By Sylvia Akpan

The Cross River Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dr. Okweche Odey has met with officers from the three senatorial districts of the State to brief them, as President Mohammadu Buhari is set to assent the Peace Corps Bill.

Odey noted that it is the first time in the history of the nation that a private bill of such magnitude will be passed twice by the National Assembly.

The State Commandant assured officers that the bill will be assented to by the president and encouraged officers who have to key into the digital and literacy program to do so for their betterment as the fourth batch registration is still in progress.

Recall that the National Assembly had a few days ago forwarded to President  Buhari for assent, the harmonized version of the bill on the Nigerian Peace Corps after passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“In consonance with the provisions of the Acts Authentication Acts Cap. A2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, I wish, with due respect to forward to your excellency, the authenticated copies of the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Act, 2023 for your consideration and assent,” a letter made available by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambuwal read.

The Bill, if assented to, the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria which had been operating on the template of volunteerism over the years, will now be a Federal Government-owned and funded agency in the name of Nigeria Peace Corps.
