The Cross River State House of Assembly has confirmed Mr. Charles Atu as Director General of the State Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau.
The confirmation came after the screening process conducted by the House Committee on Judiciary, led by its Chairman, Hon. Davies Ettah.
The appointment of Mr. Atu follows the recommendation of the Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, who forwarded his name to the Assembly on August 9, 2023. The screening took place on Friday, August 11, during which Mr. Atu faced intense questioning from the committee members.
After careful consideration, the Assembly found Charles Atu to be deserving of the role of Director General.
The Speaker of the House emphasized the significance of his role. He stressed that Atu’s presence in the Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau serves as a vital watchdog against misappropriation and unethical practices within the State administration.
“Mr. Atu’s responsibility goes beyond mere oversight; he is the guardian of transparency and integrity within the State’s financial processes.
“We trust that he will meticulously review every document that crosses his desk and exercise prudence in approving any decisions. A minor error could potentially cast the State in an unfavorable light,” the Speaker said.
