No fewer than six officers of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service are standing trial for committing fraud and diverting public funds into their personal accounts.
The acting Chairman of The State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Peter Oti stated this while speaking with newsmen in Calabar recently.
He said four of his revenue enforcement officers who are currently standing trial for diverting government money will serve as scapegoat for other officers who engage in sharp practices.
Peter who refused to reveal the names of the officers and the amount involved when pressed by newsmen said their trial shows that government was strengthening leakages that had hitherto existed in the system.
The State had earlier in the year organized training for its revenue enforcement officers in a bid to block the leakages that have hitherto hindered revenue collection in Cross River State.
