Cross River-Born Secondary School Graduate Wins Best WAEC, JAMB Performer

A young secondary school graduate, Miss Unimwoshi Grace Ogbeche of Emeraldfield Schools Calabar, has won the award of highest scorer in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), 2023 examinations.

The award came from a philanthropist, Mr. Joseh Odey,  Chief Host of the Joseph Odey 2023 WAEC SSCE Award.

The award is a form of motivation to secondary school students across Cross River’s northern senatorial district aimed at challenging young learners to be inspired to do well academically.

Among the entries received for this year’s award, Miss Unimwoshi Grace Ogbeche of Emeraldfield Schools Calabar who hails from Obudu LGA in the State, has the best results: She scored 6 As, one B, and two Cs in her WAEC examination.

She is among the best JAMB scorers from her school – scoring 326 aggregate.

After diligent scrutiny of entries from young secondary school students from Cross River North, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, Joseph Odey declared that he, “has the honor of presenting the prizes to her at her school in Calabar, Cross River State.”

In a Facebook post, he said study textbooks will be donated to the school as well.

He further cleared the criteria for the award to include the student to have a minimum of A grades in at least four subjects in the 2023 WAEC SSCE exams to apply with the candidate with the highest number of A1 grades will win the award.

“Qualifying candidates should come from any of the five LGAs in Cross River North – Bekwarra, Obanliku, Obudu, Ogoja, or Yala. Please upload your LGA certificate of origin for verification.

“Upload your valid WAEC scratch card to use for result verification. Upload a copy of your WAEC SSCE result printout in the appropriate section. Submissions start at 5 pm on Sunday 10th September and will end at 5 pm on Sunday, 24th September. The student with the best grades (best WAEC result out of all the submissions) will be contacted on Wednesday, 27th.

“The award will be presented on Thursday, 4th October 2023, at the school where the examination was written – if it is within Northern Cross River State. Ensure to fill the form accurately.”
