The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememem, last Monday flagged-off the rehabilitation and construction of Lessel-Wajir and Vandeikya-Obudu roads.
The contract was awarded to Tilley Gyado and CCECC companies at the cost of N1.035 billion and N3.296 billion, respectively.
Tilley Gyado will handle the 25 kilometre Lessel-Wajir road while CCECC is to construct the Vandeikya-Obudu stretch.
The companies were given 12 months to complete the projects.
Flagging off the projects, the minister said the projects were intended to connect the six geo-political zones of the country.
He said that the rehabilitation of Vandeikya-Obudu road would boost the economic activities of Benue and enhance the tourist potentials of Cross River through the cattle ranch at Obudu.
“We are here to flag off these projects, which when completed, will not only provide better access to Nigeria’s most important tourist destination, the Obudu Cattle Ranch, but will improve the evacuation of farm produce and services within and outside Benue.”
While enjoining leaders of the communities to take possession of the projects through effective supervision, the minister warned the contractors to use local content.
Onolememen, who said that the contractors emerged after rigorous screening exercise, urged them to deploy their technical expertise and knowledge to execute the projects.
“I know that the contractors and supervisory team, headed by the Director, Highway, North Central Zone, understood the seriousness the Federal Government attached to the projects.
“They are, therefore, required to deploy their technical expertise and knowledge to ensure hitch-free execution of the projects.”
