Teachers of Cross River State’s Teachers Continuous Training Institutes (TCTI), have cried out months of unpaid new minimum wage.
The teachers expressed their grievance in a congress held by the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), TCTI branch, where the meeting addressed issues affecting staff welfare and ended with resolutions.
During the congress, members expressed appreciation for the management’s efforts in providing palliative payments to staff. However, they urged management to implement the newly approved minimum wage and pay arrears dating back to December 2024 up till may 2025.
The request stems from concerns that TCTI remains one of the few institutions in Cross River State yet to receive the updated wage, which has left many staff members facing economic hardship.
Other issues the congress addressed include the ongoing promotion exercise, as members unanimously appealed for expedited action on promotions, noting that many qualified staff have been overdue for advancement.
In response to these concerns, management acknowledged the ongoing challenges but reassured staff of their commitment to dialogue and welfare.
A letter referencing the congress resolutions signed by the Registrar, Rebecca Odumusor, dated May 13, 2025, highlighted management’s ongoing efforts to advocate for the payment of the minimum wage to state government authorities.
Staff were encouraged to remain patient, as management prioritizes their well-being.
The Institute Management noted that delays in the promotion process have been partly caused by some staff submitting their “Parts A” of the APER forms late.
