The Cross River State Ministry of Education, has pledged stronger collaboration with the College of Education and University of Calabar, to strengthen teacher preparation and improve education delivery across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Stephen Odey made the commitment on Tuesday while serving as Chairman of the 2026 2nd Annual Conference of the College of Education, University of Calabar.
The conference, themed “Restoring Trust in Education: Preparing Future-Ready Citizens for the Knowledge Economy,” brought together academics, education stakeholders and political leaders to discuss ways of repositioning education for the demands of a changing society.
The Commissioner described the theme as timely, stressing the need for teachers and education managers to embrace professionalism, responsibility and continuous learning in preparing students for the knowledge economy.
He expressed pride in the College’s contributions to teachers development and described the institution as an important constituency within Cross River State’s education system.
Odey assured the College of the Ministry’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the institution, noting that closer collaboration would contribute to improved teacher preparation and education delivery in the state.
He also urged participants to take advantage of the knowledge and expertise shared by scholars and other presenters during the conference.
In recognition of his contributions to education and the promotion of the continuous development and sustainability of the education sector, the College conferred on Odey a Distinguished Award of Excellence.
The conference was attended by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Akpanke, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Ironbar, Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Michael Odere, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, who was represented, the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. John Undie, among others.
