The Cross River State House of Assembly, has assured the Female Commercial Drivers Association of legislative support to advance their activities in the state.

Receiving the Association during a courtesy visit in his office in Calabar, the House Speaker Rt. Honorable Elvet Ayambem commended the women for breaking stereotypes by venturing into commercial driving.

Praising their discipline, patience on the road and qualities he said they are the real women who have set themselves apart from male drivers.

While charging them to remain law-abiding and prioritize safety, he assured them of the legislatures’ commitment to support initiatives that would enhance their welfare and contributions to the transport sector.

His words: “Governor Bassey Otu runs a gender-friendly administration where women play an integral role. Whatever we can do as a House to strengthen your work legislatively, we are open to it.”

Earlier, the Association’s President, Philomena Ifeoma Asibe, explained that women in Cross River were breaking new ground in the transportation sector, with many of them having undergone professional training facilitated by Lafarge.

Asibe appealed to the state government to create space for women in the Ministry of Transportation, noting that such recognition would strengthen their sense of belonging and participation in governance.

She appreciated Governor Otu and his wife for their consistent support of women and assured the Speaker that the association would remain steadfast in supporting the governor’s policies and political movement ahead of 2027.

The group also commended Speaker Ayambem for his leadership in the 10th Assembly, praying for God’s guidance to enable him to achieve more for the state.
