Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has denied speculations making rounds that he is nursing a dream to represent Cross River Central Senatorial District in the Senate after his second tenure as Governor of Cross River State.
Crossriverwatch had reported exclusively yesterday that the Governor was intending to scheme out the incumbent Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba who still wants to continue after 2015 when he would have spent 12 years in the Senate.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, the Governor said he is not interested in the Cross River Central Senatorial Seat. “Some of the speculations in your report are not correct. The Governor is not contesting any other election again. He wants to rest after his second term. He keeps telling us that to contest an election is not an easy task, it is stressful and he will want to rest after his second term. I don’t think he wants to go through all the stress of consultation and campaigns for another position”.
Crossriverwatch had gathered that the State power mafia see Egba as a tight handed person and not totally committed to the state agenda at the national level and want him replaced by 2015. John Owan Enoh, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation representing Obubra Federal Constituency in Cross River State is also said to be gunning the Central Senatorial Seat.
But Imoke has cleared the air saying he is not interested in contesting any other election after his second term. The Chief Press Secretary also debunked reports that the Governor’s comment that his successor will come from Cross River North is a ploy to divide the Northern Senatorial District. “the Governor made that statement out of his considered opinion for the fact that the northern part of the state remains marginalized. He is convinced that it is the turn of the north to produce the next state governor and he was not prompted by any other thing other than his sincere desire to support the north to produce the next governor come 2015”.
