The Commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar, Brigadier General Shehu Yusuf, said today that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes who died to in the war to unite Nigeria should not be forgotten.
Yusuf who spoke during an interview in Calabar through the brigade public relations officer, Joseph James as part of the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day said, those fallen heroes that died made the country one indivisible entity till today.
He said the significance of the annual event is to pay tribute to those that had died during their service to their father land and to remind their families that their effort was not in vain.
The 2013 annual event which took place at the cenotaph ground of the millennium park in Calabar, offered prayers to the deceased, their families as well as the nation’s leaders and the country.
The High point of the event was the 21 gun salutes, march past and the laying of wreath by the state Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham.
Also present at the occasion were traditional rulers, service commanders, the Chief Judge of the State as well as the chairman of the Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Legion retired lieutenant Colonel John Oshi.
