The once cordial relationship between the chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Mr. Ekeng Henshaw, and his police orderly, Matthew Ibor, has collapsed irretrievably following allegation by the policeman that his boss has diabolical plans against those opposed to his second term bid.

Under the plan as revealed by the police orderly in a chat with journalists in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, the chairman plans to use fetish and physical means to allegedly do away with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter secretary in the local government, Mr. Mfon Bassey, and the councilor representing Ward 6, Hon. Charles Ntiero.

Based on this allegation, Henshaw has been a guest of the state Police Command and State Security Service (SSS) in the last two weeks where he reports daily to answer to allegations raised in the petitions against him about the planned elimination.

But reacting to the allegation in a telephone interview, the chairman said he would prefer that the police handle the matter and conclude their investigations, saying he was not perturbed by whatever the PDP chapter secretary, the councilor and the police orderly have said.

Ibor said his decision to reveal the devilish plot by the chairman against the Calabar-South chapter secretary of the PDP and the councilor has nothing to do with monetary inducement but the need to protect innocent lives and bring the chairman to justice.

The police constable maintained that he knows so much about the plan because he’s been following the chairman to some native doctors being consulted to allegedly terminate the lives of these two politicians in Calabar South who are opposed to his re-election bid later this year.

He accused his boss of having plans to eliminate those opposing his second term ambition but that his concern was about Mfon Bassey and Charles Ntiero whom God told him to reveal the plot against them so as to save their lives.

According to him, even before the state Commissioner of Police, he was ready to make the same revelation against the chairman and that if invited by his superiors, he will write the same allegation in his statement, adding that his position on the issue has nothing to do with money but the fear of God.

Ibor, who promised to mention those places where he followed Henshaw to at odd hours to effect the plan, said he knew Mfon through the chairman, stressing that his conscience has been pricking him ever since Henshaw fell out with his political godfathers and decided to go diabolical knowing full well that his estranged sponsors were now against him.

Based on the revelation by the police orderly, the Calabar-South PDP Chapter Secretary decided to petition the state police command, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 6 and the SSS to investigate the allegation. The petition is dated January 21, 2013. Ntiero has also petitioned.

He lamented that the information of threat to his life by the council chairman as revealed by the police orderly meant that his life was in danger as such, the chairman should be made to sign an under-taking that he should be held responsible should anything harmful happen to him.

Bassey said in the petition that on Friday January 18, 2013 at about 6am while still in bed, one of his relatives woke him up to say that someone was looking for him. It turned out to be the police man.

“Matthew told me that why he came was to inform me of the plans by his boss, Mr. Ekeng Henshaw and his cult group to kill me and some stakeholders of the party in Calabar-South who he viewed as major obstacles to the actualization of his second term dream.

“Mr. Matthew also informed me that on many occasions, his boss had taken my name to different native doctors’ shrines both in Cross River and Akwa-Ibom States including one mystic temple housed in a storey-building somewhere in Akai-Efa, Calabar-Municipality not far from the Town-Hall owned by one Elder Edet.

“He also told me that his boss had made arrangements with his cult members from outside Cross River State to come in before the elections and carry out some mayhem on me and others marked for death.

“According to him, the strategy to be used for the action would be that during political meetings, ceremonies and other such events before the election which I and other targets would surely be in attendance, the cult boys would pretend to be arguing and quarreling among themselves and would eventually start breaking bottles, shooting guns and cause people to panic and disperse and thereby create an avenue for them to shoot whoever is on the chairman’s death list.

“On this note, Mr. Matthew advised that I should not keep what he told me to myself”, Bassey stated.

Aside from the PDP Chapter Secretary, the Councilor, Ward 6, Calabar-South, Mr. Charles Ntiero who is also alleged to be on the danger list of the Chairman, has drawn the attention of his colleagues in the Calabar-South Legislature to the said threat to his life by the chairman.

In the Vote of Proceedings of the Legislature dated January 22, 2013 item CSLC/4/2/5.0: Personal Explanations, he reported the case of threat to his life and recalled an incident of January 13, 2013 where he had a phone call from the Chairman’s Police Orderly, Mr. Matthew Ibor informing him of a list of 13 persons including himself and the Calabar-South Chapter Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Mfon Bassey being earmarked for elimination by the Chairman of the council.

Besides the alleged plan to exterminate the life of the councilor, he reported that on January 19, 2013, he was chased by a group of unknown gunmen in a-190 Black Mercedes Benz car where he fortunately escaped through the Air-Force Barracks in Big Qua Town, Calabar.

Ntiero therefore prayed the House to write to the council chairman on this allegation leveled against him for a reaction just as the chairman’s police orderly, Mr. Matthew Ibor should be invited to appear before the House to attest to the information on the threat to the lives of Ntiero, the Chapter Secretary of PDP and others on the chairman’s danger list.

Meanwhile, following this revelation, the Police Orderly, Matthew Ibor has alleged of some clandestine moves by the chairman to stop him from talking again on the issue including sending a bribe of N220, 000 to him which he rejected.
