People who want to buy lands in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital, should be on the watch as fake land speculators are on the increase in the P
aradise City.
Investigations by crossriverwatch reveal that there is a rush to the serene city of Calabar by those who want to invest in properties and those who wish to relocate their families to the Canaan city due to its low crime rate and prevailing peaceful nature of the State.
Our findings show that amongst the category of Nigerians players in the property investments in Calabar are some Nigeria Service Chiefs, top notch politicians and known business men and women who want to settle down and own properties in Calabar either as their permanent homes or for holidays.
This according to a registered Estate Valuer who preferred anonymity has led to high demand for lands and landed properties in Calabar.
What is now eliciting palpable fear amongst prospective land buyers in Calabar according to our findings is fake land vendors and speculators.
Checks by crossriverwatch confirm that cases of land disputes, illegal sales and fraud relating to property sale at the Zone Six headquarters of the Nigeria Police, have increased dramatically and calls for caution.
Police sources told crossriverwatch that the sustained pressure and near stoppage of illegal crude bunkering along Calabar-Akpabuyo-Bakassi water ways contributed largely to the movement of jobless youths into land speculators, dealers and non-registered valuers.
Our findings reveal that most of those who have fallen victim of this land racketeering are those who bought land in the new government developed areas along the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Federal Government Girl’s College road, Ediba Qua Clan and Nkonib Ikot Ansa Qua areas, all in Calabar municipality.
Already Cross River State Government has warned both the land buyers and sellers over these illegal dealings.
In a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Surveyor Ralph Uche, government warned illegal land speculators and developers of government acquired land along airport road by-pass, Calabar to stop their illegal land transactions as his ministry will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with anyone caught in illegal land transactions.
In a statement signed by the commissioner, Surveyor Ralph Uche said in part, “Government attention has been drawn to illegal land transaction of some portions of the government acquired land lying along the airport road by-pass, Calabar. The portion of land lying along the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar and Federal Government Girl’s College, Calabar in Ediba Qua Clan and Nkonib Ikot Ansa Qua Clan of Calabar municipality, comprising the airport road by-pass, was acquired in the overall public interest, therefore, illegal land developers and speculators should stop their nefarious activities and sabotage of government projects and programmes through their acts.
This statement is an advice to prospective buyers to be wary of the activities of fake land vendors and speculators in Calabar in particularly the mentioned areas ,and the public should be properly guided” the statement Said.
