Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Saturday March 2, 2013 defeated the Botswana under 17 national team three goals to nothing in an international friendly match at the U.J Esuene Sports stadium in Calabar.

The three goals came in the first half of the match with Awoniyi Taiwo spotting jersey number 9 scoring twice goals while Ifeanyi Matthew with jersey number 15 scored one goal.

Awoniyi found the back of the net at the eighteenth minute of play and netted his second goal in the dying minutes of the first half to bring the tally to three while Ifeanyi scored on the 33rd minute of the game.

The match which was dominated by the Eaglets in both half saw numerous missed scoring chances by both sides and was watched by the governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke who only came back from the United States on Friday, 1st of March, his wife, Obioma Imoke, Isa Yuguda, governor of Bauchi State, Mr. John Odey former minister of Information and several other dignitaries.

The match is the first leg of two games scheduled to be played by the two teams at the same venue. There will play the second match on Monday 4th of March, 2013 at the same time of 4pm.

The matches were organized to prepare the Nigerian boys for the final phase of the African U-17 Championship taking place in Morocco between April 13 and 17.
