The need for accurate register of entry into pension scheme by retirees and appropriate capturing of their data in
Cross River State has been advocated.
State Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Anthony Ayeni stated this during an interactive session of the state pension board forum in Calabar.
Ayeni said doing this will bring sanity and transparency into the board, pointing out that those captured will be attended to on first come, first serve basis.
He emphasized the need for verification of pension and gratuity vouchers before making payment, to allow transparency in the process.
The Auditor-General, who said that his office was out to assist the pension board to succeed, said that there is need to streamline the board operations and called for a synergy between his office and the pension board in order to strengthen the board’s services.
In her remarks, the State Head of Service, Mrs. Mary Theresa Ikwen said the retirees confidence on the activities of the board is guaranteed, urging that the confidence the Federal Government repossess on the board must be justified.
She assured them of prompt service delivery and advised the pension board to move in line with the technological age by shunning unnecessary bureaucracy.
“We must add value to the service as a proof that the 19,000 workers are productive for effective and efficient service delivery” she said.
