Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Larry Odey has joined other well meaning Nigerians calling on the federal government to heed to the agreement entered into with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Speaking with newsmen in Calabar recently, the speaker said the continuous stay at home of the students as a result of the strike will have adverse effect on their education.
He said there is need for the nation’s education sector to improve as demanded by ASUU just as he called on the striking union to come to the dialogue table with the government.
“I don’t know what the ASUU is demanding for in details but I’m aware is about their welfare and improvement in the education sector.
“If this is part of their demands, I think the Federal Government should listen to them and come to the roundtable in addressing some of these demands.
“The Union too should not use the strike as winner take all, they should listen to the government to address some of their demands, if it is for the overall interest of the country they should negotiate.” he said.
