The Cross River State commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr. Benito Eze said yesterday that about 1000 men have been deployed for the local government council elections holding tomorrow Saturday September 21 2013.
Eze, during an interactive session with newsmen in Calabar, said his men in collaboration with other security agents would ensure a hitch-free election.
“We advise the electorate to be law abiding so that we will have a violence free election on Saturday but anyone who is found wanting will be seriously dealt with,” he said.
He also confirmed the arrest of 61 people who allegedly specialize in pipeline vandalisation.
He said out of the 73 people arrested, 12 were involved in illegal bunkering of petroleum products.
He added that six tankers containing 136, 250 litres of diesel and five pumping machines were recovered from the oil bunkerers.
