The Paramount Ruler of the Efuts in Calabar South Local Government Council, His Majesty, Muri Munene Effiong Okokon Mbukpa, the Muri Munene of Efut Nation has promised that he will put all arrangements in place and award a chieftaincy title to Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin, President, Campaign for Democracy and Women Arise for the illustrious work that she is doing for Nigeria.
Speaking during the CrossRiverWatch First Year Anniversary Lecture at Transcorp Metro Hotel in Calabar, the monarch eulogized Dr. Odumakin for her work in the liberation of the poor in the country, particularly women. He said he has been following the activities of the human rights Amazon for a long time and was pleased to meet her at the occasion.
“I am very happy that I am here today. There are so many people that I have wished to meet that this occasion afforded me the opportunity to meet today. One of them is the REC, Barrister Igini. When they posted him to Cross River State, I said there was trouble. I said trouble because I knew that with him, the right thing will be done.
“Another person I have met is this great woman, Dr. Odumakin. I have been following her activities for a very long time and I am very happy to meet her here. I want to use this opportunity to thank her for the work she is doing for Nigeria and pray for God’s blessings for her.
“I want to also assure her that very soon, I will make all arrangements and give you a Chieftaincy title. I will put all the necessary arrangements in place and communicate the time to you when we are ready. You deserve the title for the work you are doing.” The monarch said.
But in her reaction, Dr. Odumakin declined the offer saying she just wants to concentrate on doing what she is doing. Speaking to CrossRiverWatch, she said: “Sincerely, I appreciate the offer of the traditional title from the Muri Munene. I want to thank and appreciate him for all the kind words that he showered on me that day. But I don’t accept titles.
“They have been offered to me severally at different fora by respected traditional rulers who appreciate the work we are doing but I have always declined not because I do not cherish them, but because I just want to be who I am. But I want to strongly assure the Muri Munene that I will always be ready and willing to serve his community at any time he calls me to duty so longs as that will bring progress to the community.”
