Chief of Staff, COS to Governor Liyel Imoke, Dr. Alex Egbuna says electing women as Chairman and Vice Chairman under the ruling People’s Democratic Party in Abi Local government is a demonstration of tolerance that the leader of the party in the State who is from Abi has for the women.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote at his Agbara Ekureku primary school Ward, Dr. Alex said the light of Cross River State in women emancipation will start to shine from Abi Local Government Area.
He said since the creation of the local government in 1996, there was no time a woman has emerged as a council chairman.
Alex said Abi local government which had previously produced two female Vice Chairmen will record another first in Cross River State and the South South region in producing a pair of female Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively.
He commended the faith of Governor Imoke in Women, saying “His Excellency and his wife will continue to be role models in the State and Nigeria.”
The Chief of Staff said Abi under the watch of the governor will continue to be a model state amongst all the local governments on good governance, women emancipation and equal opportunities.
