A member of the opposition in Cross River state and former governorship aspirant under the defunct Hope Democratic Party, Dr. Theo Onyuku has expressed appreciation to the Imoke administration for naming the building housing the Central Bank of Nigeria Entrepreneurial Development Center which just opened in Calabar after the late Cross River born educationist, Prof. Eyo Ita.
In a press statement made available to CrossRiverWatch, Dr. Onyuku eulogized the late Prof. Eta as an iconic and incorruptible political personage who has been painfully forgotten.
The statement reads in part: “I write to show my unquantifiable and enormous appreciation at the naming of the South South Central Bank of Nigeria Entrepreneurial Development Center in Calabar, by the Cross River State Government after a great Nigerian, an iconic and incorruptible political personage, unremembered political Iroko, a leading political giant, the first leader of government business in the then Eastern Regional Government, indisputable best educationist, unparalleled youth developmentalist, a prominent leader in the actualization and creation of the South-South political entity; our own Professor Eyo Ita.
“The man Professor Eyo Ita has been painfully forgotten. I remember this great Nigerian from the minority of minorities who founded the Ogbomosho Peoples Institute. An institute he founded to educate, empower and enlighten the Nigerian youths.
“He also founded the present day West African People’s Institute WAPI, Calabar, Cross River State. His legacies and creations for the development and engagement of the Nigerian Youths are unquestionable.
“While others built personal houses/estates, Professor Eyo Ita invested immensely in the development of the Nigerian Youth via education which is the greatest human investment. He was a consummate, selfless, purposeful political juggernaut, a political timbre and caliber with an uncommon vision to better the lots of the people. A major factor in carving a political niche for the people of Southern minorities.
Frankly I must submit that I am most impressed at the naming of the South South Entrepreneurial Development Center after Professor Eyo Ita. I salute the unprecedented step taken by the Cross River State Government to immortalize this great and selfless Nigerian political leader from the South South region”.
