The Cross River State government has denied that the Obudu Cattle Ranch was affected by the mudslide that rocked the tourist haven early in the week.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Liyel Imoke, “The multi-billion Naira Obudu Ranch Resort was unaffected by the mudslide that occurred in Utanga Village in the early hours of Tuesday”.
The statement issued in Calabar today, said the clarification became necessary to douse any anxiety over the safety of the prime holiday resort.
It also debunked claims that guests at the Resort were trapped in the mudslide, stating categorically that every single quest at the Resort was successfully evacuated from the facility.
“The mudslide did not occur on the mountain as is being speculated and the Resort Cable Car was not affected at all, neither were any of the facilities at the resort.
“In fact, the mudslide did not occur at the Resort but rather on the road leading to the Resort. Guests who were spending the Sallah holidays at the Resort were taken in the cable car to the Water Park at the bottom hill,” said the statement.
The statement assured that the rubble which made the road impassable will be cleared within 3 to 5 days.
It also assured that the Obudu Mountain Race will go on as scheduled on November 23rd.
