National leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC Chief Tom Ikimi has said talks are in top gear to bring former governors, Donald Duke and Clement Ebri alongside their supporters to change the political landscape of Cross River State to ‘The Progressives’.

Ikimi while inaugurating the 22 members of the interim executive members of APC in Calabar, Monday evening said the party is waxing stronger every day with changes taking place in all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

He said already Edo and Rivers have championed the change needed in the South South region of Nigeria and that Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Delta will soon follow suit.

“Political change has been taking place so rapidly in Nigeria like never before and we in the South South and particularly in Cross River where political development of Nigeria started must not lag behind in an effort to champion the fight for our children”.

Ikimi said Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers with other major stakeholders are ready to support the change in the South South region.

While giving assurance that Donald Duke and Clement Ebri will soon join the broom revolution, Ikimi said: “There will be many more states that will join APC soon and from our investigation, if we do our home work right, this state, Cross River State, I am sure by 2015 if not before will become an APC state.

“Before my arrival here, I’ve spoken with some of your past governors, as you know I was the National Chairman of NRC that installed Clement Ebri here as your governor in 1992. He had spoken with me earlier and he expressed a lot of insight to what is going on in APC.

“Same as your immediate past governor, Donald Duke and all others are in contact and I believe soon or later, APC will become very strong in Cross River State”.

Commenting on the possible entrance of Donald Duke into APC in Cross River State, a social critic and right activist, Barrister Obono Obla said more than ever, Nigeria need the coming together of the progressives, the conservatives, the liberals and the leftists to save the country from the brink of corruption and dis-unity as it is today.

“We want All Nigerians to join APC as part of its rescue mission of the progressive minded people to send the buccaneers in the PDP out of power.” he said.

Earlier, the election of the interim chairman of the party was conducted under a free, fair and transparent atmosphere and the Minority Leader of the Cross River State House Assembly, Hon. Alex Irek was declared winner having polled the highest number of votes (12) to defeat elder David Okon with 10 votes.

The election was to the satisfaction of all according to our source at the event.

Hon. Alex in his acceptance speech said there is no victor, no vanquished as everybody is for him and he is for everybody in the determination to send PDP packing out of government house by 2015.
