The President of the Students Union Government of the University of Calabar, Comrade Bassey Eka was involved in a ghastly motor accident on Valentine Day CrossRiverWatch has gathered.

The accident occurred at Akamkpa while Eka was returning from the traditional marriage of his faculty lecturer in Obubra LGA.

The Director of Information, SUG UNICAL, Comrade Akah Augustine confirmed that the accident occurred at about 1:15pm on the 14th February, 2014 at Akamkpa LGA along Calabar-Ikom High Way.

Akah said: “As they were returning from Obubra where the traditional marriage of his lecturer held, when they got to Akamkpa while driving a tyre busted and the car somersaulted three times and dashed them at the road side. The President sustained a fractured ankle”.

Continuing, he disclosed that the SUG President was driving himself in company of his Special Adviser, SA on Projects Monitoring who also sustained minor injuries and has been discharged from hospital.

“There is another colleague who had no injury at all and two others that are presently hospitalized with their President at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH since February 14 when the accident occurred.

Our reporter also gathered from the hospital that an x-ray had been done on Comrade Bassey and the result is still being expected.
