A Speeding truck hours ago crushed a Nissan Maxima belonging to the Cameroon Consulate along Marian Road in Calabar while trying to escape men of the Federal Road Safety who had mounted a roadblock close to the Calabar Municipality gate.

The accident which took place under the Marian Road pedestrian bridge that takes pedestrians across the Ediba Road to the Marian Market severely crushed the Nisan Maxima which was driven by a staff of the Consulate, Abubakar.

An eye witness, Jones, told CrossRiverWatch that the Nisan Maxima was coming from Ediba Road to join the Marian Road when the truck which was on top speed crushed it sending the car spinning round to face the direction it was coming from.

“There was a slight hold up here so when Abubakar got here he slowed down and suddenly the truck came on top speed and crushed the car”.

Abubakar, Jones said sustained injuries on his right hand and was rushed to the General Hospital Calabar for medical attention. “He did not die but sustained injury on his right hand and has been rushed to the General Hospital for medical attention”

Police and Department of Public Transportation, DOPT, officials were deployed to the spot to control the traffic build up that resulted from the accident while the truck was taken to the Akim Police Station.
