Given the dearth in funds to pursue the council’s goals, the Chairman of Abi Local Government Council Mrs. Edith Amadi has indicated strong commitment to seeking alternative sources of funds for the Local Government Area.
Mrs. Amadi gave the indication in an executive session with members of the Abi Executive Council which held recently in Itigidi, the council headquarters.
The Chairman who emphasized the need for improved internally generated revenue to enable her administration meet the challenges of the Abi people charged members of the council to discover other revenue sources for the council through their respective departments.
She observed that her administration would not continue to rely on the federal allocation which according to her was never enough to run the affairs of the local government area to an appreciable level.
While condemning identified leakages in the thin Internally Generated Revenue that presently accrue to the council, she ordered an immediate census and auditing of the existing revenue points to check further leakages, adding that such exercise would help to increase the council’s IGR.
Mrs. Amadi disclosed that a committee that would be vested with the cardinal responsibility of ensuring improved internally generated revenue for the council would be constituted with the view to taking the council out of its present financial quagmire.
She solicited the cooperation of the executive members in ensuring that all financial commitments due to the Local Government Area from the existing revenue outlets were fully harnessed as she was not resting on her oars to fulfil her duties to the people of the council area.
