Some weeks ago while addressing newsmen on the second anniversary of the Party Exco in Cross River State, the state chairman of the People Democratic Party, PDP Ntufam John Achot Okon asserted that Mr. Godwin J. D. Agba is not a member of PDP.

Ordinarily, one would have ignored that statement as one from a jaundiced fellow whose only political credential is an underserved “appointment” to the position of chairman.

I am constrained to join issues with the chairman because if nobody says anything it will be accepted as the gospel truth and the people will remain in deceit.

The thing is that in Cross River State, misfits are often allowed to hold sway, that is why the current PDP Chairman who has not as much as contested councillorship election, an opportunist from Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, who shouldered his way up in the Cross River State Civil Service and had the party chairmanship awarded to him on retirement, can make statements he cannot defend. We shall reserve discussion on his profile for another day.

For now let us return to the assertion that Goddy Jedy Agba is not a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Now it is clear that the Cross River State PDP acting the script of its overlord can afford to disown Mr Agba when it is convenient for it.

When the party needed his support at other times, he was celebrated.

Recall that during the build-up to the local government election in September 2013, Goddy Jedy Agba generously donated to the basket that was used to build the big war chest that gave the party all the council seats.

Further down the lane, Goddy Jedy Agba contributed hugely to the second term victory of Senator Liyel Imoke. All that while, he was not a party member!

Today, Ntufam John Achot Okon can boast: “Goddy Jedy Agba is not a member of our party and the party’s provision’s as regards how long one can be a member to be eligible to contest are too well known”.

Pray, how long was Ntufam John Okon a member of P.D.P before becoming State Chairman? From records, Ntufam Okon was barely four months old in retirement from service as Clerk of the State House of Assembly when he emerged as Chairman of PDP in Cross River State.

Now it is becoming clearer, men like Goddy Jedy Agba, self motivated, educated, cultured and a high flyer will not be allowed to fairly compete because the powers that be will prefer a mediocre who will grope in the strange tunnel of power.

They will prefer a man who is not his own man but will continue to be an appendage of the old order.

Cross Riverians are poised to effect change – a change that will see them choosing who should lead them post 2015.PDP has a choice to move with the new order or sink in its self-delusion.

Goddy Jedy Agba should be allowed to test his popularity at the party primaries or else the youth of Cross River with the support of women and right thinking elders will run out the band of oligarchs who are bent on bringing Cross River State to its knees.
