In a statement in Calabar by the National Vice Chairman, South South of the Party, Comrade Hiliard Ettah, obtained by CrossRiverWatch, the party described the attack as cowardly and underscoring the desperation of certain elements to cling to power at any cost
“I absolutely condemn the cowardly attempt to snuff out the life of Mr. Muhammadu Buhari in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 23, 2014, by ramming his convoy with a bomb laden vehicle while moving through Kaduna en route to Daura, his hometown in Katsina state.
“The evidently politically motivated act is not just cowardly, it underscores the desperation of certain elements to cling to power at any cost. Hence the attempt to assassinate one of the key opposition figures ahead the February 2015 national elections.
“I sympathize with Buhari, a patriotic countryman and a progressive who, for so long, has been exceedingly committed to the project of a better Nigeria even in the face of daunting challenges.
“Those who lost their lives are worth a place in our hearts: I genuinely commiserate with their loved ones and I pray that they have the fortitude to endure the loss.
“It is of great importance that we work collectively and in unity to make Nigeria a safe haven for us all.” The statement concluded.
