Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has urged Muslims in Nigeria to strive towards strengthening the peaceful coexistence and good neighborliness for the betterment of the country.

In his goodwill message marking the Ed-el Fitri, Governor Imoke, in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, said: “Nigerians must imbibe the lessons of the Ed-el Fitri, which include love and kindness, piety, sacrifice, peaceful coexistence and commitment to duty.”

The Governor urged Nigerians to reflect on the various challenges confronting the nation and pull together to overcome them.

“The challenges confronting us as a people require the cooperation of everyone, if we are to make any meaningful progress. This is why we must not lose sight of the virtues of tolerance and respect for one another.”

Governor Imoke admonished Moslems to sustain the lessons of sacrifice, discipline and love learnt during the period of Ramadan beyond their communities to other parts of the country.

According to Imoke, “The Ramadan fast has afforded us the opportunity to reconnect with our creator and extend the hand of fellowship to our fellow men,” adding that “we should not allow religion or any narrow considerations to divide the country but rather, it should serve to promote the dignity of humanity and mutual respect for one another.”

Imoke urged both adherents of Islam and Christianity to pray for sustenance of peace in the country.
