The Cross River State Commissioner for Information said Thursday in Calabar that the demise of Mr Jude Okwe, the ThisDay newspaper correspondent in Calabar is painful coming at a time when his children are still young and in need of him to take care of their needs.

Mr. Ricketts who stated this when he and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Chris Ita paid a courtesy call on the family of the late journalist said that the deceased has worked for many years selflessly to disseminate information about the development strides of Senator Imoke through excellent write ups.

He said the governor was grieved with the passing away of the journalist with whom he had worked together for many years.

He said the door of the Ministry of Information is open to the family and called on them to take heart and see what has happened as an act of God and not despair nor see his death as the end of life.

Mr. Christian Ita conveyed the condolences of the state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke to the family and stated that his boss has made spirited effort to save the life of Okwe by sponsoring a trip abroad for him.

He said he has been a long standing colleague of Okwe when they worked together in the defunct National Life. “Okwe was like my senior brother when I was the MD of National Life and he reported for the paper from Calabar. What impresses me most about him was the fact that he was very intelligent and each time his report came I would ask the editors not to bother to reduce the script it is from Okwe”.

Mr. Ita said the governor has asked that he be carried along in the burial plans.
