There was pandemonium along Muritala Muhammed highway, Calabar, Tuesday Afternoon when two petrol tankers suspected to be carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as Petrol exploded claiming no fewer than three lives.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that several cars and other personal belongings were also destroyed as soldiers from the 146 Battalion and other security agencies came out to rescue the situation.
The Inferno attracted a large crowd which gave security and rescue personnel a hard time to cordon off.
Eyewitnesses who spoke with CrossRiverWatch at the scene of the incident said the accident occurred when two tankers were
struggling to overtake each other at a wrong side of the road which led to a collision and somersault.
The eyewitness account that one passerby was among the dead while the other two who were drivers were burnt inside the tankers.
As at the time of filing this report, security operatives as well as fire service from EPZ, Nigeria Port Authority and Cross River State Fire Service were on ground to contain the fire and remove the dead from the truck.
The accident spot has become a routine accident point caused by trailer drivers.
