Youth leaders from the South, Central and the Northern parts of Cross River State have endorsed the aspiration of the immediate past commissioner for works, Mr. Legor Idagbo to pick the ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP, to contest the governorship of the State come 2015.
In their different speeches when they visited the aspirant in Calabar to declare their support, a representative of the Southern Youths Decide, Comrade Effiom Effiwatt, Eval Asikong of the Central and Barrister Rowland Ipuole of the Northern Cross River all praised the qualities of the former commissioner and declared him fit to take over from Imoke.
The youth leaders where in company of several members of the State House of Assembly including Hon. John Gaul Lebo, Hon. Agbiji Agbiji among others.
While speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Eval Asikong said: “We have looked around and heard so many people call up their CVs, one of the things we know that Cross River State needs more than anything is to sustain the political peace we’ve been enjoying. And for that purpose, we believe you are that politician, somebody that understands, a grass rooter, because your antecedents speak for you. You have contested elections and you know what it takes to deal with the structure of 196 wards in Cross River State.
He said the 18 LGAs in the State have their peculiarities and needed someone who knows the terrain to match words with action in moving the state forward.
“Legor Idagbo is a common name, in fact a household name in northern senatorial district of Cross River State at large. He’s a true son of the state. A lion begets a lion, Senator Liyel Imoke is a lion, a politician. He has taught us politics 101, and we want somebody that will continue with politics 101. And that person is no other person than Legor Idagbo.” He added.
Responding, the governorship aspirant, Legor Idagbo said: “I am satisfied with the caliber of people I have seen here today that victory is certain. The number of solid politicians that are here, the number of youths that I’ve seen here shows that we have decided to take our destiny in our hands. There’s going to be a lot of work to be done, let us prepare for that work ahead. Let us do it prayerfully, let’s do it mindful of the achievements that have been achieved in this state. Collectively I am certain that we can succeed.
“I am impressed with this turn-out, it’s unprecedented; people have come out like this to support an aspirant! I am excited about the confidence you have in me knowing that I have the backing of my people.” He said.
