Cross River Wins National School Sports Festival 4 Times In A Row

Cross River State has once again emerged overall champion at the National School Sports Festival which was hosted by the Benue State government in Otukpo Local Government Area, making it 4 times champion back-to-back since the 4th edition in 2011.

With team Cross River State finishing first at the end of the competition tagged ”Mark of Excellence”, they won a total of 124 gold, 91 silver and 84 bronze medals to top the medals table for a record fourth consecutive time, after winning the 2011 (4th) edition at home in Calabar, 2012 (5th) edition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and 2013 (6th) edition in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Our correspondent who covered the event reports that Anambra State came second with 82 gold, 103 silver and 119 bronze medals, while Lagos state finished third place with 74 gold, 15 silver and 53 bronze medals.

Cross River State also won the trophies for the best overall champions in the Primary and Junior Secondary categories, while 6 years old Master Eyo Wisdom from Cross River State won the award for the youngest athlete at the festival.

About 5,000 athletes from 15 states including Cross River State participated at this year’s event.
