Some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River state have reaffirmed the no- confidence vote passed on their embattled state chairman, Pastor Usani Usani urging the national leadership to among others suspend him from office to allow for a dispassionate investigation of the allegations levelled against him.
The members also want the state Chairman, who has also been nominated by the party for a possible ministerial appointment, to refund the squandered campaign funds affirming that he would not come out clean over the issue. Usani is to appear before a probe panel led by Hon. Davidson Oputteh on Thursday April 23rd (tomorrow) and answer to allegations of fraud, anti-party activities, fractionalization among others.
A letter to that effect titled, ”Invitation to appear before the fact finding committee” and endorsed by Hon. Oputteh directs the chairman ”to appear and defend yourself in light of the various allegations levelled against you.”
But members of the party affirmed an earlier decision to oust the chairman. Barrister Eyo Nsa Ekpo, a chieftain of the party told newsmen yesterday that over 300 stakeholders from across the state have renewed their call for Usani’s ouster.
He said the embattled chairman must quit to save the party from extinction. According to him ”though Usani is busy bribing some members to pass a vote of confidence on him as a way of dislodging the initial ouster push of most members, he was only polarizing the party the more by that action and that is an offence in itself.”
Barrister Ekpo said members have resolved not to give Usani credibility by allowing his decisions as state chairman hold. ”Usani has a case of moral bankruptcy that even in the face of the loss at the polls and the allegations of fraud, fractionalization and others against him he is still putting himself forward for ministerial appointment. That’s a conscience unleashed from the abyss,” he maintained.
He urged the national leadership to suspend the chairman so as not to influence the decision of the probe panel.
