The wind of change turning round the Country after the Presidential Election won by the Candidate the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari has hit Cross River state with the decamping of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State and a one time Nigerian ambassador to Mali, Chief Soni Abang, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The carnival like defection took place at the APC Secretariat along Marian Road,Calabar with friends and supporters of the former Chairman of Boki Local Government in attendance.
The former ambassador said his loyalty to his new party which has been done secretly in the past is now open in a bid to join forces with the progressives to move Cross River State and Nigeria Forward.
He said his former party has become an enclave controlled by few persons against the dream of the founding fathers of the party.
I feel at home here in APC family which I have been a secret member in the last two years because they are running the paarty like family and community where every one have a say unlike my former party where it’s being controlled by some “Emperor” in few persons .
I have always supported the cause of this party in so many ways. I think it is the proper time to come out in the open today to assist and contribute my quota by supporting the APC with thousands of my supporters to achieve its manifesto and its intention.
“I am here to formally tell you that I am now a member of the APC and I have called all my supporters across the State to join the APC. Why we have decided to do this today is to contribute our support to the governorship election coming up on Saturday.”
While welcoming the former ambassador to the APC family, State Chairman of the party,Usani Usani said Abang who has been a friend of more than two decades has towed
the path of change for the betterment of Cross River and Nigeria.
He said the former PDP Chairman will be accorded all the full rights and privileges like every other member of the party.
He called on others who have the change of Cross River at heart not to sit on the fence but to embrace the broom revolution which, he said, has indeed come to the State to stay.
He called on the voters and party admirers to vote for all the candidates of the party in the April 11, 2015 elections as doing this he said will change the face of Cross River state for better.
“Cross River State cannot afford to be in opposition in this era of change”he said.
