The rescheduled elections in 32 units of Mkpani/Agoi Council Ward of Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State went on smoothly today.
Our correspondent reports that accreditation of voters using the card reader commenced at 8.00am, while the actual voting began at 1.30pm.
As at the time of filing in this report, results were beginning to trickle in from the various polling units to the Mkpani Secondary School which is serving as the collation Center.
According to our correspondent, the leadership of PDP and APC in the area reached a last minute accord to vote PDP in the Yakurr 11 State Constituency, meaning that the actual contest is between PDP and LP.
CrossRiverWatch further reports that, unlike the last one, the rescheduled election was generally very peaceful and that an Assistant Commissioner of Police from the state police headquarters, Calabar was physically present with heavy presence of security personnel to ensure the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
The APC candidate for the Yakurr 11 Constituency, Mr.Bassey Utum Inah was said to be garnering zero votes in most of the polling units as a result of the accord reached between his party and PDP.
