A group of professionals under the aegis of the Progressive Alliance of Cross River Professionals, PACRiP have argued that APC chieftain and long time ally of the President Elect, Barrister Obono Obla is best suited to be minister from Cross River State in the incoming government.

The group with representation from both non partisan professionals as well as partisan professionals, cutting across political parties in the state, in a statement say that Barrister Obono Obla has remained consistent for over a decade in his relentless fight for the cause of the ordinary people and will best represent the aspiration of the generality of the people of Cross River State in the cabinet of General Buhari’s government.

According to the statement, “The struggle for CHANGE started over 2 decades ago for a young Human Rights Activist and Nigerian Constitutional Lawyer. Through thick and thin, through the NCP and the CPC, he has been consistent with his message of CHANGE.

“Below are a few things you need to know about this man;

“He was the Secretary/Member of the defunct CPC Merger Committee.

“He was a member of the INEC/Legal Compliance Sub-Committee of the Inter Party Merger Committee that packaged the legal documentation for the registration of APC by INEC in 2013.

“He was the Secretary of the Sub-Committee of the Joint Inter Party Merger Committee that edited and prepared the final copy of the APC Constitution for submission to INEC.

“He was the Pioneer National Legal Adviser of the CPC and a member of the Board of Trustees.

“He was the National Deputy Secretary of the CPC and also a member of the General Buhari Advisory Committee.

“He was a member of the APC Anambra State Governorship Monitoring Committee in October, 2013.

“He was the Chairman of the APC Bayelsa State Membership Registration Committee, January 2014.

“He was a member of the APC National Convention Committee. Contested for the position of National Vice Chairman, South/South in June 2014 and lost.

“He was a member of the Legal and Security Directorates of APC Presidential Campaign Council.”

The group further argues that “At a time when hard work and consistency ought to be rewarded, only a man who positively divides opinions and enjoys massive youthful support and following across all political parties, fits the bill.

“Only a man who mirrors the anti-corruption stance of the president-elect, fits the bill. Only a man who has maintained over 20 years of consistency and clarity of message and purpose, fits the bill. Only a man who dares and consistently demands accountability from public office holders, fits the bill.

“Only a man who has fearlessly fought countless legal battles against corruption, impunity and human rights violation, fits the bill. Only a man who has been there and done that, fits the bill. There is none better prepared for ‘Project Nigeria’ than this man. This man is Chief (Barr) Okoi Obono-Obla.”

Some notable members of the group include Wofai Ewa, Obasesam Okoi, Kennedy Nsan, Paul Ifere, Sunny Omagu, Eno Beke Ikwen, Peter Offem Ubi, Agba Jalingo, Barrister Obasesam Stephen Okoi, Barrister Max Ogar amongst others.

The group has also launched an online signature petition, to collect signatures of supporters of Barrister Obla for Minister, to be presented to the President Elect in a visit that has been scheduled for next week.
