The Cross River State Government has expressed profound sadness and shock at the death of one of its illustrious sons and former Deputy Governor, Dr. Mathias Offoboche.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Tina Banku Agbor, said the death of Mr. Offoboche is coming at a time his wise counsel was needed the most.
The statement described late Dr. Matthias as a quintessential gentleman and most considerate statesman who will be sorely missed.
“In both his private and public service, he was the embodiment of the virtues of integrity, honesty and fairness in his dealings, virtues that are today in very short supply.”
The statement conveyed the condolences of the government and the people of the state to the bereaved family, urging them to find consolation in the fact that their patriarch lived a worthy life.
“Our heart and prayers are with the family at this moment of sadness. As a government, we will work with the family to ensure that the deceased gets a farewell befitting of a statesman.
Dr. Mathias Offoboche, a specialist gynaecologist, was the former Deputy Governor of Cross River state in the second republic under the defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN.
