The member representing Ogoja State constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Odey says despite persuasions by his supporters to collect charms for his personal and political protection, he rejected the woos because he believed in the protection of God Almighty

While speaking at a thanks giving service held at the Assemblies of God Church, Igoli in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state recently to mark his victory at the 2015 general election, Odey insisted that his Christian upbringing as a child had taught him to always put trust in God instead of man.

He explained that recently a visitor came to his office with the aim of discussing critical issues with him, only to advise him on the need to collect charm for personal and political protection.

However, Odey said he rejected the advice and would never reconsider it no matter the hurdles he encounters as a politician.

According to him “recently, a visitor came to my office with the aim of discussing salient issues with me but rather told me that he was going to take me to a very good shrine where I could get charms for my personal and political protection but I resisted. I do not believe in diabolical powers because of my faith.

“Although, I kept silent while he was giving the advice but immediately he asked that we go together to the ‘native doctor’ I shut the door at him because I do not believe in satanic protection. I strongly believe in the power of the Almighty God that is why before I indicated interest to contest the election, I called on Him for protection and He saw me through.

“I was born and dedicated in this very church (Assemblies of God Church) some years ago, and now I have been elected to represent the good people of Ogoja in the State House of Assembly, it is right on my part to come and say thank you God for all His good works, He is awesome,” he said

Earlier, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. John Gaul extolled Odey for recognizing the fact that he was elected by the grace of God and also coming to thank Him in all situations

He said the present administration of Senator Ben Ayade is poised to bringing development to the state and to make the lives of the people better.

He urged the people of the state to support Ayade to realize some of his lofty ideas and projects.

In his sermon themed ‘Showered Grace of God Upon His Children’, the Senior Pastor of the church, Elias Agbor drew his scripture readings from the book of Luke 17:11-19, Luke 15:11-32 and John Chapter 9.

While thanking for the life of Hon. Odey and the work that God has done in his life, the pastor disclosed to the church that Hon. Odey was born and dedicated in the Assemblies of God’s Church and its worthy of note that “You must return to say thank you”.

Concluding, he prayed for God’s mercy and grace upon everyone in leadership position, charging all never to abandon God.

The thanksgiving service was able to raise three million, one hundred and twenty thousand (3,120,000) naira for the Church with Hon. Odey donating half a million of that amount.

The service was graced by several prominent politicians in the state including Chief Peter Ojie, Commissioner for Power, Thomas Udam, Hon. Hilary Bisong of Boki 2 State Constituency and brother to the State Governor, Mr. Frank Ayade.
