The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Chief John Oyegun, his South-South National Vice Chairman, Prince Hilliard Eta, Vice Chancellor University of Calabar Prof. Zana Akpagu and 40 others were Saturday conferred Chieftaincy titles in a glamorous event held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The occasion which was in celebration of the one year in stool of the Ndidem of the Quas, Patriarch of the Ejagham Nation and Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, His Royal Majesty Ndidem Patrick Inok Oqua Agbor (V), drew audience from far and near.
Speaking at the event, the Ndidem Qua, Dr. Patrick Agbor (V) said that the awardees have been found worthy of the titles having done well in the different spheres of their lives and therefore the Qua people saw it necessary to crown their efforts with the Chieftaincy titles.
He further encouraged the awardees to consider the Chieftaincy title as a call to do more, charging those in Government to always consider the impact of their today’s decision on both the present and future of the communities they lead.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the occasion Dr. Sandy Onor said the Quas who are descendants of the Bantus in East Africa with settlements spread across the length of the continent are happy to host the dignitaries who took out time to celebrate with the Ndidem.
Also speaking, the APC National Chairman, Ntufam John Oyegun, who was represented by a former Governor of Ekiti State and National Vice Chairman of the APC in the South West, Mr. Segun Oni, said they are elated to be honored by the Quas and said that the honor will spur him to do more.
The event included all the trappings of the Qua traditional and cultural displays and colors.
