The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has placed an indefinite ban on all forms of demonstration and processions by the varsity’s community CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report.

A memo with the title “BAN ON PROCESSION/DEMONSTRATION BY MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY’ emanating from the Registrar’s office and signed by the Registrar himself, Moses Abang, dated August 22, 2016, addressed to the University Community said the decision was its answer to the recent security situation in the institution.

The memo with reference number UC/R.10 read; “This is to bring to the attention of members of the University Community that Management has decided to ban all forms of processions/demonstration on Campus, except funeral procession by students, till further notice. This decision was taken in consideration of the security situation on Campus.

“All staff and students are enjoined to comply with the decision and exhibit high level of cooperation to ensure a hitch-free 2nd semester”.

Staff, students and suspected thugs recently clashed in the institution following allegations of fraud, forgery, corruption and gross misconduct against the Bursar, Peter Agi.

CrossRiverWatch also gathered that following and investigation by a committee that the school management set up after the clash, the SUG President and the Bursar have being suspended by the management.
