The Sarki Hausa of Ogoja, Alhaji Yakubu Adamu, has accused one Alhaji Salisu of threat to life.

Mr. Yakubu was attacked last week Friday after afternoon prayers and in a telephone conversation with CrossRiverWatch, accused the said Salisu of attempting to kill him.

He said the failed lynching was masterminded by Alhaji Salisu and carried out by his children and is connected to the struggle for the throne of the Sarki Hausawa Ogoja.

“What happened is related to this Chieftaincy tussle, Alhaji Salisu whom we gave to hold brief said he wants to be the Sarki and we disagreed because my dad was the Sarki until his demise and I am to inherit it by custom and tradition.

“But the man who was given to hold brief and his children are causing trouble because they have the backing of some people and the community.

“Because of all these, Government intervened and sent a team from Calabar to come for fact findings and they did their report and Government directed the Head Of Local Government Administration here to relate its position and I was pronounced the Sarki Hausa of Ogoja.

“Alhaji Salisu wasn’t satisfied with Government’s position and the next thing we were summoned, me, Jude Ngaji (the) State Security Adviser, SA on Chieftaincy (Affairs, John Eyikwaje) and the Commissioner for Justice (Barrister Joe Abang) to Court.”

Furthermore, he said that: “The recent attack is when we got a new DPO I prepared to go welcome him with some of my people and when we got there we saw this other man opposing me, we passed him downstairs but the DPO wasn’t around so I now took another date to come back but fortunately while going out the DPO arrived with Okongo and those with me insisted to stay back and greet him but since I had something urgent to attend to I couldn’t wait again since I have taken a new date to come back.

“So the three of them went to see the DPO but when they went back the children of Alhaji Salisu descended on them, Alhaji Salisu is a man of eighty something years.

“The three of my boys and his children fought in the station and the matter was settled.

“Around 2pm that same Friday 18th of August 2017 after afternoon prayer at the mosque when we entered the car I saw his children with machete and they surrounded me, one used the machete and scattered my back windscreen, luckily for me, my lawyer was passing and he intervened and advised me to leave the car there and report to the station, which I did, some policemen came back with me and at the scene they arrested some of the boys with machete, they wanted to kill me but now they are begging.”

As at press time CrossRiverWatch could not reach the said Alhaji Salisu for comments.
