Another corpse of an unknown suspected armed robber has again been deposited at the Atakpa Police Division, Calabar South, Thursday 21st September, 2017.
When a call was placed to the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo for details, she said she wasn’t aware of the situation and would call our newsroom after getting confirmation.
At the time of filing this report, she has not returned the call but a Police source told our reporter that “It happened yesterday Wednesday night down Marina at about 8:30pm – 9pm. He was robbing a house and was caught by a local vigilante group there.”
The Police source added that: “When an angry mob got to hear that there was robbery on going, they over powered the local vigilante group, took the suspect from their custody, dealt with him decisively, he has a lot of machete cuts, he was seriously beaten before we arrived.”
“When we arrived, we met Operation Skolombo and DSS and we took him to the hospital, he was gasping as if he would die, on reaching the hospital he was already dead.”
A locally made pistol and a mask he was using were recovered from him.
It will be recalled that police men from the same Atakpa division claimed to have gunned down another robbery suspect last week in a duel.
