The Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana has recovered a missing police rifle snatched by youths in Itigidi, Abi local government area last week palace sources say.
Herdsmen had confronted Itigidi youths following an allegation that one of their cows was shot dead which attracted Police personnel from nearby Ugep area command.
The handling of the situation by the Police did not go down well with the youths who snatched an Ak47 rifle from one of the Policemen which led to a confrontation and the shooting to death of a councillorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was also the youth president.
Efforts to recover the rifle by the state police command proved abortive until Saturday, February 17 when Obol Ofem visited the community and spoke with the youths.
He charged them to be law abiding citizens and allow the law to take its course always.
He then warned them to desist from the temptation of attacking law enforcement officers as it was detrimental to the development of their communities.
The rifle was then handed over to him and upon his return to Ugep, Obol Ofem handed it over to the Assistant Police Commissioner in charge of the Ugep area command.
