Two officers of the Ugep division of the Nigeria Police were gunned down Wednesday night in Ugep area of Yakurr local government area of central Cross River State by suspected armed robbers CrossRiverWatch authoritatively reports.
The policemen were said to have been attacked at about 8:30 PM at the check point adjacent the Institute of Technology and Management (ITM) Ugep.
Their rifles were also taken from them a source told CrossRiverWatch.
One of the Police officers identified as Inspector Eteng Ofem from Ketabebe -Ijom clan of Ugep is said to have been confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital in Ugep.
The second Police personnel whose name was unknown as at press time is said to be a native of Mkpani, also in Yakurr local government area.
He is said to have been referred to a hospital in Calabar and preparations were ongoing for that when he also gave up the ghost.
Local police authorities declined comments citing their modus operandi which permits only the Commissioner of Police or the Police spokesperson in the state or a designated officer to speak to the press.
