The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable John Lebo (PDP Abi) has expressed shock over the demise of his colleague Honorable Stephen Ukpukpen (PDP Obudu) who died on Wednesday in Calabar.
Mr. Lebo in a statement signed by his spokesman, Mr. Azogor Ideba and issued Thursday in Calabar described Mr. Ukpukpen’s passage as, “very saddening, heart wrenching and a great loss not only to the Assembly community but to the entire state.”
Mr. Lebo said the late lawmaker was “a good representative of his people, he was a very outspoken legislator who always stood for the truth.”
Also, he said that: “We have lost a gem in the 8th Assembly. His wisdom and legislative acumen will forever be missed. Stephen indeed, has left a vacuum in the 8th Assembly.”
CrossRiverWatch had reported on Wednesday that Mr. Ukpukpen was confirmed dead on arrival (DOA) at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) after he slumped during a routine exercise in the morning.
He was first rushed to the Navy Hospital and then Bakor clinic along the Murtala Muhammed highway where he was then referred to UCTH.
Colleagues, friends, associates and many others have since taken to social media to express their shock over his demise and condole the family.
