The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Zana Akpagu has said that the Varsity is set to add Criminology, Anti-Terrorism and Security Studies as well as Peace and Conflict Resolution to its ever expanding degree programs.

Akpagu who said the institution’s Senate has given approval for the commencement of the programs in the next academic session disclosed this in an exclusive chat with our reporter.

He said this was one of his major goals on assumption of office; a massive expansion of the Varsity’s curriculum to meet up with other second generation Universities in the country.

He disclosed that last year, the University established and matriculated students into the faculties of Engineering, Dentistry and Pharmacy, noting that the new Faculties have 6 departments each.

He added that the institution under his watch has also established and matriculated students into the departments of Mass Communication and Digital Media; Music; Fine and Applied Arts; Tourism and Hospitality Management, Food Science and Technology as well as Physiotherapy.

Akpagu who is the first alumnus of the University to become its Vice Chancellor maintained that “Our alma mater is no longer ‘Mickey Mouse’ University. We must play in the big league.”

According to the Varsity, the programs will commence in the 2019/2020 academic session.
