At least 17 people who were traveling from Calabar, the Cross River State capital to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital are feared dead after their vehicle collided with a truck in Odukpani.
The driver of the vehicle is said to be in coma at the moment.
The bus, a white 18 seater is said to be mangled after the collision.
As at press time, a commuter who simply gave her name as Alex told this Newspaper that; “When I passed at about 1:00PM, personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps were evacuating the remains of the passengers.”
“We were told that at least 17 people died on the spot with the driver the only one alive since the accident occurred at about 10:00AM,” she added.
This reporter gathered from two others who had traveled the route that the driver had attempted to overtake another vehicle near a blind bend and collided head on with a truck.
The scene which is just before the Itu bridge is said to be eliciting sighs and blue faces from passers-by with some wondering when the terrible road will be fixed.
