Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, Saturday, lauded the promotion of eight senior police officers from the State urging them to remain good ambassadors.
In the new promotions announced by the Police Service Commission, six Cross Riverians were promoted to the ranks of Commissioners of Police (CP) while two were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
And, a statement issued by his spokesman, Christian Ita said the Governor saw this as “fitting, deserving and proper,” and expressed optimism that the officers will bring to bear, their expertise at all times, in securing the lives and properties of Nigerians.
“Our dear State, Cross River has never had it this good in the hierarchy of the Nigerian police. It is heartwarming, and I note with pride the elevation to the next rank in the Nigerian Police, of eight of our sons and daughters-AIG John Abang, AIG Okon Ene, CP Okon Effiong Okon, CP Echeng Echeng, CP Susan Horsford, CP Arop Augustine, CP Patrick Edim and CP Paul Odama.
“I heartily congratulate them and urge them to continue to be good ambassadors of Cross River. Having exceptionally displayed uncanny gallantry, dedication, loyalty and discipline in the force, their promotion is fitting, proper and deserving,” the statement quoted Mr. Ayade as saying.
Cross River has been bedeviled with communal conflicts, gangsterism, petty robbery and kidnapping with past administrations forming a meeting of serving and retired senior security personnels from the State to combat these.
But, the current administration stopped these meetings with senior serving and retired security personnel from the State. However, the statement said Mr. Ayade hoped that; “these our sons and daughter who are ambassadors of our state will join hands with me to ensure that Cross River remains peaceful.”
