Hours after Cross River Governor, Benedict Ayade announced the easing of the curfew in the State to last between midnight and 6:00AM, gunmen kidnapped a business man in Calabar.
Vouda David Egwu, a father of three and petty business man was abducted in front of his residence at about 9:00PM on Monday.
Sources say the kidnappers have since made contact with the family to demand ransom running into millions of Naira.
The State became notorious for kidnapping which declined after the State launched a task force, ‘Operation Akpakwu, late in 2020.
However, the morale of security operatives in the task force is said to have dipped due to owed stipends spanning months leading to their disappearance from notable spaces they stationed and patrolled shortly after it was launched.
