The Cross River State Government has said it is not owing salaries and pensions.

The Head of Service, Mr. Timothy Ogbang made the assertion in a press release saying those claiming they are owed should come forth with evidence.

Mr. Timothy said insinuations Ayade led Government is owing salaries is “vicious, untrue, and concocted to dent the good reputation of the Sen. Ben Ayade administration which has kept a clean bill since 2015.”

The former Editor-In-Chief of Chronicle, a State owned newspaper added that, “it is unarguable that even in the face of challenging revenue inflows, coupled with suffocating debt overhang, the Ayade Government has consistently and religiously placed premium on payment of salaries and pension to the admiration of all.”

The Head of Service challenged any person or group of persons that have genuine claims of being owed salaries and pensions to forward his or her claims to him for investigation and further actions.

Threatening journalists, he said “The Government shall not hesitate to sanction and prosecute those orchestrating this malicious and cheap propaganda aimed at causing disaffection in the State.”

This is coming one week after aggrieved 1,800 civil servants barricaded the state secretariat over four years unpaid salary.
