The ex-lover of Gracious Paradise, Mr. Okpara Charles Oberu currently accused of circulating the sexually explicit videos of the nurse-in-training making the rounds said he only sent it to Fortune, her other ex-lover, and five other of her close friends.

Mr. Charles told CrossRiverWatch in a chat interview that he “only sent it to 6 close friends” of Ms. Gracious on Messenger and blamed her friends for sharing it on other platforms.

Specifically, he mentioned one Winnie who is said to be her colleague. He said Winnie shared it with his friend. Charles, who said his life is threatened, apologized for what he termed his “foolishness and irresponsibility in putting out something that delicate.”

He pleaded with “everyone spreading the video of Gracious to please stop as it has done so much damage to her.”

The Cybercrimes Act of Nigeria 2015, frowns against revenge porn. Section 24 of the Act reads:

(a) Any person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or network that is grossly offensive, pornographic, or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character or causes any such message or matter to be so sent; or

(b) he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will, or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be sent: commits an offense under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not more than N7,000,000.00 or imprisonment for a term of not more than 3 years or to both such fine and imprisonment.

Mr. Charles who said he was reaching out to CrossRiverWatch to share his own side of the story, admitted that “no matter what happened, I wasn’t supposed to have leaked that sex tape and I deeply apologize to Ms. Gracious John, her family, and friends.”

How They Met

Mr. Charles said he met Ms. Gracious, 24 at a wedding in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area in December last year and they started a relationship in January that metamorphosed into an “entanglement” involving him, his “baby mama”, Gracious, and her other ex-boyfriend, Fortune who he said is a suspected yahoo boy.

“She told me she was in Calabar if I’d come to see her. I agreed and ordered Bolt to go meet her. That very night she followed me to my place and never told me she was in a relationship. It was, later on, she told me she was with a toxic boyfriend whose lifestyle and source of income doesn’t go well with her and her family and so wanted to quit the relationship,” he claimed.

Mr. Charles said he housed and fed her for the two months she stayed in Calabar for her psychiatric program and was “willing to do even more for her because I really loved her and thought she was being sincere.”

He said his association with her put a nail on his shaky relationship with his “baby mama,” as “she had let my baby mama see her and meet her at my place.

“My split up with my baby mama made me drink more and the loneliness made me find solace in Gracious and fell in love with her thinking it was genuine,” he said.

The Troubling Times

Mr. Charles said trouble started when she “found out her Fortune had just bought a new car which made her begin seeking reconciliation while still dating me and seeking financial support from me as always while in school.”

He accused her of fermenting trouble, traveling to spend the night at Fortune’s place while claiming she was preparing for examinations.

Charles added that the victim had always hidden their relationship from her friends and family while she continuously flaunted herself to his “baby mama”.

He said he reached out to Fortune and he confirmed with pictures and videos “of them clubbing, dressing up and all” and that when he confronted her, she was not remorseful but instead picked a fight with him for reaching out to the said ex.

Furthermore, he denied claims that he assaulted her and said she left his house after days of refusing to discuss the strain in their relationship.

He later recants on some of these claims and be more explicit in others, in a statement to Ms. Gracious family.

He said that he was chatting with Gracious ex-lover, Fortune and he felt they were “just sharing mutual disappointment and pain not knowing he had his intentions.”

Mr. Charles said Fortune sent him several videos and even messages with him as proof that he was still seeing Gracious.

And, he decided to send “those tapes to him as proof that she was with me.” However, he blamed this on the fact that he was tipsy since he was drinking rum with a few friends.
